Green Streets

Venice Beach is a green place. In many ways the town is by its very nature green at heart. Whether you encounter the lush walk streets or lush venetian you soon realize this is a green place. Originally laid out to resemble a Venetian Canal network Venice has always been a place for vehicles and green thought. In the early days boats, race cars and roller coasters made their rounds. Today those vehicles have been replaced by bikes, skateboards and toyota prius. There are many hybrids and bio-fueled vehicles, but in Venice your feet or bike are the preferred method of motion.

Many old European cities have narrow streets that are wide enough for a horse to turn around in and not suitable for cars. This in many ways exemplifies the differences between the european and american way of city design and life. Europe is concentric and graceful, while the american model is angular and powerful. Venice beach is in many ways one of the few cities in the us modeled more along the european mode. With walk streets, old turnabouts, and boardwalks all within walking distance Venice has a more green feel. During the summer bikes are very common on the streets and the ocean front walk is packed.
